Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
We made it to the end of term! Congratulations to all students on a wonderful Semester of learning at St Michael’s. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all about student success and achievements in learning in their school reports these past couple of weeks. It is always lovely to hear how students set learning goals and how they go about achieving them at school.
Parent Teacher interviews form an integral part of the school - parent partnership. This week’s PT interviews will be an opportunity for you to speak to your child’s teacher about their academic and social progress at school. Children are not required to attend the parent teacher interviews this week.
It is always helpful to come with one or two questions in mind; some examples may include:
- How can I support my child’s learning at home?
- What are some ways in which I can help my child develop socially at school?
- What are some key areas that we could focus on at home to build my child’s confidence?
A reminder that your child’s report was released to you on PAM last Friday. If you have not already done so, please jump onto PAM and read the report. This will also be a great starting place to begin a conversation at Parent Teacher interviews.
Last Thursday, we celebrated Grandparents and Special Visitors day. Thank you to everyone who came to spend time with us over the afternoon. We are so blessed to have such special people in our lives and the smile on the children’s faces showed us how proud they were to have you visit St Michael’s!
School finishes at 1pm this Friday.
Wishing you all a wonderful Term break. I hope you all get to spend time with family and loved ones. Enjoy a little sunshine and have fun. See you all back at school on Monday 21st July.
Kind regards
Lia DiCorleto

Firstly, for the grade 3s to 6, there will be a school incursion on Monday the 30th of June. This will be held in the school hall. Foundation to grade 2, will have their incursion on Thursday the 3rd of July. This will also be in the hall.
On Thursday, the 3rd of July at about 9am, we will have a school parade. Parents, family and friends are warmly welcomed to attend. The children are invited to dress up in the Italian colours (green, white and red) or as an Italian character.
Some simple ideas are as follows:
- a pizza chef - just need a pizza box and an apron
- a gondolier driver - a stripey top and black pants
- gelato (ice cream) - a colourful wig with brown clothing
- a Carnevale participant- a mask (can be made or Spotlight has some)
- a soccer player - soccer top and soccer ball
- a painter like Michelangelo - school art smock or old shirt and a paintbrush
- any clothing with the Italian colours (red, white green) - some children wear green sports tops on sports day and all children have a red polo shirt.
- An Italian flag
During this week, the children will also be able to taste some gelati. We will also have available gluten and dairy free sorbet, such as Gelativo from Woolies. If your child is not able to have gelati because of health issues, please contact Carla Scholtes on the email address below, to arrange an alternative. The gelati will be served in cups, not cones. (cscholtes@stmtraralgon.catholic.edu.au).
Please note there won't be any buses running in the afternoon on Friday 4th July. Services will resume as normal on Monday 21st July.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be given out at in the classroom on Friday.
In Week 11 the School Wide Expectation focus is Resilience:
I view mistakes as a learning opportunity.
I persist through challenges and difficulties in my learning.

Peter and Paul represent two great traditions within the Church: the strength of tradition and oneness associated with Peter; and the valuing of new ideas and outreach to others that typified the work of Paul. Throughout most of its history, the Church has linked the two major figures of Peter and Paul, so it is fitting that they share this feast day.
However, also throughout most of the Church’s history, Peter has been given greater regard and has held a more significant place in the tradition. There is huge significance in the line of Popes that is traced back to Peter. Peter is described as the ‘rock’ upon which the Church was built, an excellent image of stability and constancy.
In something of a contrast, the apostle Paul is best known as the great traveller who spread the message of Jesus all around the shores of the Mediterranean, establishing communities of faith wherever he went. His letters – or epistles - to these communities were some of the first Christian writings. Rather than stability and constancy, Paul is identified with growth and change; expansion and openness. Many would argue that without Paul the early Christian communities may not have survived beyond the end of the 1st Century.
The question Jesus puts to his disciples in this week's gospel is the very same question that he puts to us every day of our lives, ‘Who do you say I am?’ How we choose to answer that question will be reflected in our attitude towards self, others and to life itself. How we answer that question will change frequently throughout life as experience and changing spirituality lead us into asking other questions of ourselves. If we hold that the teaching and example of Jesus are important to us, then we are bound to strive towards emulating them in our own lives.
Parents and carers from St Michael's are invited to see The Resilience Project webinar about building resilience at home. This webinar is on Thursday 31st July, 6:30-7:30pm. You can register using this link. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to learn practical strategies to practice gratitude, empathy and mindfulness at home to continue to support and enhance your child's wellbeing.
