Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
What a lovely day we had here at St Michael’s on Friday. The weather was amazing and the children had a fabulous time both during the Diversity Dash and then taking special people through the Art Show. A reminder that any sponsorship collected for the Diversity Dash needs to be paid to cdfpay by 10pm tonight.
Thank you so much to all who were able to help out during the Diversity Dash and/or visit the Art Show. These events could not happen without your support. On your behalf I also wish to thank Shona Arber and Sharon Dortmans for organising the Diversity Dash as well as Jenny Hanrahan and Sue Hill for the careful curation of the art pieces in the hall.
If you were unable to join us on Friday to view the art exhibition, we will have additional times available to visit the exhibition before and after school. These times will be:
Wednesday 23rd November (3:20-3:45pm)
Thursday 24th November (8:30 - 8:50am and 3:20 - 3:45pm)
Below are some photos of our special days!
On the 5th of December, the school will celebrate an Italian cultural day. A number of things will happen on this day.
Some simple ideas are as follows:
- a pizza chef - just need a pizza box and an apron
- a gondolier driver - a stripey top and black pants
- gelato (ice cream) - a colourful wig with brown clothing
- a Carnevale participant- a mask (can be made or Spotlight has some)
- a soccer player - soccer top and soccer ball
- a painter like Michelangelo - school art smock or old shirt and a paintbrush
- any clothing with the Italian colours (red, white green) - some children wear green sports tops on sports day and all children have a red polo shirt.
- An Italian flag
On this day, the children will experience another cultural show and will also be invited to taste some gelati. If your child is not able to have gelati because of health issues, please contact Carla Scholtes on the email address below to arrange an alternative. We usually also have available gluten free sorbet, such as Gelativo or Weis from Woolies but please let her know if your child will need this. The gelati will be served in cups, not cones. A REMINDER THAT THIS FRIDAY 25TH NOVEMBER IS A
SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY.
Kind regards,

St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal
St Michael’s Primary School has a long tradition of supporting our local St Vincent de Paul Society. Each year we assist with two collections for St Vinnies: June, for the Mass of the Sacred Heart and December, for the Christmas Appeal
Leading up to the festive season, St Vincent de Paul make Christmas Hampers for families in our local community who are in need of support, particularly at this time of year.
To assist St Vinnies, we ask our school families to donate some festive items. These donations might include: Christmas food, serviettes, wrapping paper, bon bons, gift cards, toys etc. Consider donating the items that bring joy into your household during this special time of the year.
Any support you can offer at this time would be greatly appreciated. We ask that donations be at school before Friday 9th December.
Thank you for your continuous spirit of giving.
Sue Rickwood
Last Sunday we celebrated the feast of Christ the King - this is cause for celebration! Christ is our king. Kings throughout history have sometimes been cruel, arrogant, despotic, greedy and even outright wicked. Others have been wise and benevolent leaders who protected and cared for their people. No prizes for guessing which type of King Christ is – and yet he is so much more as well. So let's celebrate! Though the world we live in has always been scarred by death, injustice and sorrow, Christ our King loved it, redeemed it and restored it to hope. As followers of Jesus we pledge to spread his kingdom of life and goodness by always trying to love God and others as he did. How might we bring this kingdom of life and goodness into our homes and schools? What can we do to spread the kingdom of God?
