Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Thank you to everyone for their assistance on Friday with the Athletics Day. From the setting and packing up crew, the event helpers and the walkers your assistance was greatly appreciated. The last groups left the venue at 12pm so we were safely back at school before the heat of the day.

NAPLAN FOR YEAR 3s AND YEAR 5s
This year NAPLAN is occurring from March 15th through to March 27th. It is an online assessment that occurs nationally each year for grades 3, 5, 7 and 9. Each child that sits these tests receives a copy of their results measuring where they sit against the State and National grade level cohort. The school uses the data from this testing to measure teacher impact and inform future planning.
NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. NAPLAN information for parents and carers brochure is available on the VCAA website. It is available in a range of languages.

On the first Sunday of Lent the readings and the gospel are all about temptation. It begins in the first reading with the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and it continues with the testing and temptation of Jesus as he echoes the plight of the people of Israel, who wandered in the desert for forty years. They relied on God to provide them with food and protection and ultimately lead them into the land that was promised to them. They had to trust that God would deliver these things in God’s own time and way.
Last week we entered into a new season in the Church calendar and, just as seasons of the year are marked by tell-tale signs (changes in foliage, weather ), so too are the seasons in the church marked by tell-tale signs. The season of Lent is marked by ashes, the colour purple and the cross. What do these things tell us about Lent? Lent is a time to look at our lives and try to get rid of things that keep us from God. Through prayer, fasting and good works we become closer and more focused on God. Talk with your child about the things that we can do to become closer to God…. it might be through prayer, through an act of good work or by giving something small to someone in more need.
Preparation for the 2023 Reconciliation Sacrament is about to begin with a Parent / Child Information Meeting on the 1st March at 6pm in the St Michael’s Church. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available for children in Grade 3 who have been baptised Catholic. Registration forms were sent home with all of the Grade 3 children last Thursday. If you have not yet received your information or you have a child in another year level that has not received the sacrament yet please contact me via email srickwood@stmtraralgon.catholic.edu.au .
