Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Tomorrow we farewell Mrs Sue Rickwood as she leaves for her SION experience in Jerusalem. We wish her all the best and know she will come back at the start of Term Three with lots of information to share with us.
The children have been writing prayers for Sue to take on her journey and Sue will be placing them at the Western Wall when she visits there. The prayers below were written by 5/6EF.
Dear God,
We pray for world peace so that all nations will get along with trust and no wars or conflict.
We pray that nothing bad happens to the school community and that everyone stays safe.
We pray for the sick people, heal them and give them hope.
May you help people struggling in third world countries and protect children in need.
Please look out for everyone who is less fortunate than ourselves and may you guide them to a better future.
Pray for the people in need of medicine, support them and heal them.
We pray that people who struggle with starvation and malnutrition are able to find full meals and clean water. We hope you fill their stomachs and hearts with good food.
We pray that victims of domestic violence can find shelter and safety and sinners may change their ways and be forgiven. We also pray that Australians will speak up when they are being domestically abused.
We pray that you will keep our family and friends safe and healthy.
We pray for everyone to respect each other and prevent self harm to themselves.
We pray for the environment to stay safe and clean.
We hope you look after us, including the poor and sick, the school community and everyone who needs our help.
In the name of Jesus may the holy spirit hover over us to protect us.
Amen
Grandparents Day
We appreciate the wonderful response to our Grandparents' Day celebration. The children were so excited to share their school with their special guests. It was so lovely that so many grandparents and special people were able to spend time with us, some travelling quite a distance to be here. Thank you!
A heads up that we will be holding an art show on Friday 10th November and we would love to welcome you back. Please save the date.
Celebrating NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to recognise and learn more about the history and culture of indigenous communities.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, when on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Today, it is a week-long celebration held in July that consists of a range of traditional and contemporary activities.
NAIDOC Week is an important event that helps build positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. It enables a deeper understanding of our differences and similarities. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to eliminate bias and discrimination by reflecting and reconciling the wrongs of the past to facilitate hope and build a fairer future. Families are encouraged to join in and support young people in learning the significance of NAIDOC Week.
This Special Report on school TV offers suggestions on how families can celebrate NAIDOC Week together. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help. There is a link to school TV on the website in the school community section where there is a range of previous articles.

Emergency Lockdown Drill
As part of the our schools Emergency Management plan we are required to have scheduled drills to practice evacuations and lockdowns. A lockdown will occur at 11:30am tomorrow, Wednesday. The office will be unattended for a short period of time whilst all staff participate in the drill. During the drill, the front door to reception will be automatically locked until the drill is over. Please note this important information if your child has an appointment and will be leaving school at this time.
Have a safe, happy and healthy holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 10th July.
Kind regards,
Jodie
On the weekend we return to Ordinary time in the church calendar after celebrating the Easter events and all of the important days that followed. As a result, we return to the events that occur during the ministry of Jesus. In the first reading God told Moses that the Jewish people were God's chosen people. They were precious, and would be cared for. Once Jesus began his ministry he continued to care for them and then he sent his disciples to preach to them and heal them. In today's gospel Jesus sends the twelve apostles out into the world with quite a list of tasks to tackle. It sounds overwhelming, but Jesus also tells them to ask the Lord of the harvest for more workers. We think about all the people here in our school, our parish and our community who are doing God's work, and also about all the work that needs to be done. It’s important to encourage our children to think of ways they can help, they are the change makers of the future. Let’s start now, work beside them to make great things happen around us.
from the Parents and Friends Group
We are currently holding a Lamington drive, sponsored by the Heyfield Bakery. Chocolate and/or Raspberry lamingtons can be ordered for $10 per tray (each tray holds 6 x large cubed lamingtons). $3 from each tray sold goes back to St Michaels, so we appreciate your support.
The Second Hand uniform shop will be open every 4th Thursday of the month starting June 22nd from 3:00pm to 3:30pm. The stall is located in the large meeting room at the school, so those wishing to purchase items will need to enter through the main office.
LV Division Winter Sports Success!
On Wednesday 7 June, St Michael’s fielded four teams of grade 5 and 6 students at the Latrobe Valley Division Winter Sports competition.
Competing against up to 5 teams (schools) from across the Latrobe Valley, our mixed AFL team, girls soccer, boys soccer and girls Netball team gave their best to come out on top for the day. It was fantastic to see great teamwork and sportsmanship across all teams from St Michael’s and all other schools.
All teams, along with a mixed Tee-ball team that progressed directly from the Traralgon District Winter Sports, will compete at the Gippsland Region Winter Sports finals which are being held in Maffra and Sale next month on Wednesday 19 July.
A massive thank you to the parent supporters and coaches on the day, we appreciate your ongoing support!
Congratulations to everyone and we wish you all the best in the next round!

Dear Families,
Important update for students who are approved for travel on the School Bus Program: Thank you for your patience while the School Bus Management System (SBMS) has been under maintenance.
The School Bus Management System has now been upgraded, and the new Student Travel Assistance Portal will be available from early Term 3.
It is important to note that the School Bus Program Policy has not changed, and navigating the new Student Travel Assistance Portal will be very similar to the previous SBMS.
The Student Travel Assistance Portal requires new log in details. All existing users will be sent their new username and a link to create a new password via the email address attached to your SBMS account, to allow you to access the system.
In relation to term 3 travel;
All eligible and conditional travellers (those approved for travel at no cost) will continue to be approved for travel in term 3.
All ineligible travellers will be communicated with shortly. They will be provided with a term 3 travel offer and payment advice. As per previous terms, families will need to make the applicable bus fare payment of $125 to be approved for travel in term 3.
To check your current e-mail address is on file, or to update your contact details, please contact the School Bus Program team on schoolbus@education.vic.gov.au or call us on 1800 338 663.
