School Fee Concessions
St Michael’s endeavours to make Catholic education affordable for all in our local community.
The school has an application process for any enrolled family to seek a fee concession based on financial hardship. There are two categories under which an application for a concession can be made:
Category 1 – Eligible means tested Health Care Card (HCC) and Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) holders. Any family in which the fee payer holds an eligible means tested CCC is automatically eligible for a school fee concession. There is a simple application form and streamlined approval process. The Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited recommended concessional fee for 2024 is $520 per family.
Category 2 – Special Consideration
For other families experiencing financial hardship, the application process requires more detail to be provided to enable a fair and equitable assessment of eligibility for, and level of, fee concession.
Please contact the school office if you wish to discuss your eligibility for a fee concession.
In the gospel passage this Sunday, we have a picture of Jesus preparing himself for his public ministry. He takes himself out into the wilderness, away from all that he has known until this time, to reflect on his life so far and this next vital stage that he is about to enter. In the wilderness, Jesus is tempted. He has to face his own doubts and demons before he sets off on the road of his public ministry. When he leaves the desert wilderness and enters back into Galilee he immediately begins to preach and, in the first words accredited to him in this gospel, Jesus announces that the kingdom of God is at hand and it’s time to repent and believe. It’s a call to open your eyes and get with the program!
When we adopt a view of Jesus as the Son of God, it is hard to imagine him even facing temptation, let alone the possibility of him giving in to it. However, when we see Jesus as also being fully human, we realise that he was just as likely to face temptation as we are. But what might have tempted Jesus? Was he tempted to simply go back to his life in Joseph’s carpentry business and not respond to God’s call? Was he tempted to display his power in flashy demonstrations for all to see? Was he tempted to despair at what lay ahead of him? How do you prepare yourself for something that you know is going to be challenging? Jesus’ call to ‘repent and believe’ is a very appropriate call to begin the Lenten season.
Last week the students of St Michael’s had a fabulous start to Lent. A team of pancake makers and an excited group of student leaders worked hard to feed the staff and students with pancakes.
The proceeds of our day will be used to support Project Compassion by Caritas. Together we raised approximately $300. Congratulations to the students and thank you for your support.
We are very excited to announce that St Michael’s Parish, Traralgon are hosting a night with Fr Rob Galea. This is an event for all; young, old and anyone in between.
You may ask “Who is Fr Rob?”
Fr Rob Galea is an ordained Catholic Priest, currently serving in the Sandhurst Diocese, Victoria after moving to Australia from Malta. He is the founder and executive director of ICON Ministry (formerly known as FRG Ministries) a charity organisation that ministers to over 1,400,000 people each year across the world.
Fr Rob is an internationally acclaimed author, singer, and songwriter with one book (Breakthrough), a reflective journal, and eight album releases. Fr Rob has performed at several key events before an estimated single live audience of over 1,000,000 people. He has been featured in newspapers, magazines and TV shows worldwide, and was a contestant in Australia's 2015 The X Factor. Fr Rob’s book Breakthrough is intended to be released as a Hollywood movie in 2025.
Fr Rob is passionate about sharing the Good News, recognising that before everything that he is a follower of Christ, a priest and only then, a speaker, musician and artist. He has a significant evangelistic and outreach ministry, speaking and singing to students and teaching staff, as well as conferences and churches around the globe.
Come along for an evening of music and testimony. An event not to be missed!

DISTRICT SWIMMING 2024
This morning, Tuesday 20th February, 15 students in years 3 to 6 went to Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre (GRAC) for the Traralgon District Primary School Competition. Students swam in heats of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly as well as some students participating in the Freestyle Relay. It was amazing to watch our students encourage each other, cheering and supporting as well as showing patience and respect to all those around them. Congratulations to all the students who participated today and well done to those that placed in their events and relays! All the hard work of our students paid off today - with St Michael’s placing 3rd overall!
We are doing a call out for balls and sports equipment. If you know of any sporting teams/clubs that are getting new balls/equipment and are donating their old ones, could you please grab them for us. Thank you!
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at Assembly on Friday.
In Week 4 the School Wide Expectation focus is Honesty:
I always tell the truth.
I am honest when reflecting on my personal performance.
I take responsibility for my actions.
