Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Thank you for your support over the two athletic days. There was a lovely atmosphere at the school on Friday as we gathered for the final events of the carnival. Well done to all our house captains for the diligent way they prepared and supported their teams this term, we are very proud of the leadership you have shown. Congratulations to Red House for winning the aerobics competition and to Blue House for being the overall winners of the Athletics this year.
This week we begin Naplan for Year 3 and 5 students. It is important that all children are in attendance, so where possible, please refrain from booking appointments or arriving late to school on these days. Please refer to the school calendar for specific times allocated to the tests.

As we get closer to Holy Week the gospel turns to talk of the “Son of Man” and the world that is created for us. In an attempt to demonstrate love and forgiveness, God’s only Son – the Word made Flesh – is sent into the world to lead the people from darkness to light; not to condemn the world but save it.
Think for a moment of the last time you saw or heard a reference to God on a television program, in a song, or some other popular medium. Chances are, the reference was one of a judging, vengeful, punishing God. This sort of image plays particularly well with a modern audience. It’s easier to dismiss God as irrelevant if we can paint God in that sort of image. TV sitcoms do it particularly well with thunderclaps, bolts of lightning and booming, disapproving voices from above. It’s much harder to dismiss a God of love who will go to extremes to demonstrate that love.
God created a path for us beforehand, so that we might walk on it. Do you think God created a very specific path for each individual? Or do you think God created a very general path of goodness so that each individual might find his or her own way to walk?
Preparation for the 2024 Sacrament Program is getting underway. Three sacraments are celebrated throughout the year: Confirmation is celebrated in Grade 6 in Term 2, Reconciliation is celebrated in Grade 3 in Term 3 and the sacrament of the First Eucharist is received by Grade 4 children in Term 4.
An information booklet and enrolment forms will be sent home to all children in Grade 3, 4 and 6 this week. The information booklet has all of the necessary dates that will be involved in the sacrament that your child is preparing for. Enrolment forms are due back to the Parish Office by 25th March.

Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at Assembly on Friday.
In Week 7 the School Wide Expectation focus is Respect:
I treat my peers, teachers and learning environment with respect.
I show appreciation for the efforts of others.
I speak kindly to others.

School Fee Concessions
St Michael’s endeavours to make Catholic education affordable for all in our local community.
The school has an application process for any enrolled family to seek a fee concession based on financial hardship. There are two categories under which an application for a concession can be made:
Category 1 – Eligible means tested Health Care Card (HCC) and Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) holders. Any family in which the fee payer holds an eligible means tested CCC is automatically eligible for a school fee concession. There is a simple application form and streamlined approval process. The Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited recommended concessional fee for 2024 is $520 per family.
Category 2 – Special Consideration
For other families experiencing financial hardship, the application process requires more detail to be provided to enable a fair and equitable assessment of eligibility for, and level of, fee concession.
Please contact the school office if you wish to discuss your eligibility for a fee concession.
