Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
We had previously advised that there was no assembly this week due to the Foundation incursion. Unfortunately for the Foundation students this has been postponed but that also means that assembly this Friday the 22nd of March is back on! Please enter via the Church St door for a 1:45pm start.
Fr. Fob Galea
What an amazing experience we had last week with Fr. Rob Galea visiting our school and parish. The energy in the church on Thursday night was electric and it was so pleasing to see that so many of you were able to be a part of it. The staff had an enriching experience on Friday that was full of learning, laughter and a little bit of dancing!
Fr. Rob also spoke with our Grade 5/6 students and this is what some of them had to say about their session with Fr Rob
“I enjoyed how Fr Rob mixed real songs with his own songs” Leila
“I liked the way that Fr Rob used money to show that we all have value even when we feel ‘crumpled’ “ Tofunmi
“I liked the way Fr Rob said that everyone is valuable in different ways and we are all priceless.” Mason
“I liked the way that Fr Rob used comedy to teach about our ‘big buts’ in life” Imogen
What a fabulous opportunity for our school community to learn and grow!
Here are some photos from the two days:
School Athletics Day
Part 2 of our Athletics day occurred on Friday 8th March where we welcomed the parents again to watch our Aerobics and Tug of War! Blue House were the Athletics Champions, Red House were the Aerobics Champions and Gold House were the Tug Of War winners!
Regional Swimming
We had another successful day in the pool for our St Michael's Swimmers at the Regional Swimming event. There were lots of smiles on their faces. We are really proud of the way they represented themselves and the school. We also thank the parents for their support on the day.
Kind regards,
Jodie

PARISH NEWS
Today’s reading reminds us that we are closing in on the events of the Passion that we will remember more closely over the next couple of weeks. Although the Gospel of John appears to have Jesus in and around Jerusalem quite often, the events described in this week’s reading take place in the preparation for Passover, immediately before the final days leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is a fitting culmination to the Sunday gospels of Lent and prepares us for the account of the Passion that will be the gospel next week.
In the gospel Jesus says, ‘Anyone who loves (their) life loses it; anyone who hates (their) life in this world will keep it for eternal life.’ This can seem pretty tough! It challenges us about how much we cling to the ‘things’ of this life. Are we concerned about the labels on our clothes; the number of our friends; how much money we have; the sort of house we live in? If this is the ‘life’ that we place meaning on, then we will surely lose it. However, if we put aside the world’s focus on material things and focus our attention on others then we are assured of eternal life.
Jesus said the ones who serve would follow him and the ones who would lose their lives would live forever. What does it mean to follow Jesus?
Preparation for the 2024 Sacrament Program is getting underway. Three sacraments are celebrated throughout the year: Confirmation is celebrated in Grade 6 in Term 2, Reconciliation is celebrated in Grade 3 in Term 3 and the sacrament of the First Eucharist is received by Grade 4 children in Term 4.
An information booklet and enrolment forms have been sent home to all children in Grade 3, 4 and 6 last week. The information booklet has all of the necessary dates that will be involved in the sacrament that your child is preparing for. Enrolment forms are due back to the Parish Office by 25th March.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at Assembly on Friday.
In Week 8 the School Wide Expectation focus is Learning:
I set high expectations of what I can achieve.
I work hard and always try my best.
I reflect on my own learning and how I can improve.
I can receive and act on feedback.

School Fee Concessions
St Michael’s endeavours to make Catholic education affordable for all in our local community.
The school has an application process for any enrolled family to seek a fee concession based on financial hardship. There are two categories under which an application for a concession can be made:
Category 1 – Eligible means tested Health Care Card (HCC) and Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) holders. Any family in which the fee payer holds an eligible means tested CCC is automatically eligible for a school fee concession. There is a simple application form and streamlined approval process. The Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited recommended concessional fee for 2024 is $520 per family.
Category 2 – Special Consideration
For other families experiencing financial hardship, the application process requires more detail to be provided to enable a fair and equitable assessment of eligibility for, and level of, fee concession.
Please contact the school office if you wish to discuss your eligibility for a fee concession.
