Dear Parents, Guardian and Carers,
We are very proud of our grade 5/6 students who planned and ran the Mini Olympics day last Friday. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their leadership skills, teamwork, and creativity. Their effort in preparing for the events, the teamwork they displayed and the positive spirit that was evident made the Mini Olympics Day a huge success and enjoyed by the other levels. We extend our gratitude to our teaching staff for their work in providing the grade 5/6 students the opportunity to plan and run this event.
Yesterday the Foundation students celebrated 100 days of school. How time flies when you are having fun! We loved seeing the children wearing their 100 days t-shirts. So creative!!
Email contact with teachers
At St Michael’s we promote and encourage an open and respectful line of communication. The teachers at St Michael's welcome and value the communication between parents and teachers, however, we ask that parents be mindful of the timing of an email being sent to teachers, inclusive of weekends. We ask that any email communication between parents and staff is sent at an appropriate and respectful time. This is particularly important during the school holidays, when our teachers are spending time with their own families and children.
Most often it is not possible for teachers to respond to parent emails during the school day as they are in class, have yard duties or have meetings. Therefore, we ask that parents allow a period of 24 hours until a response is received. To help, where possible, please keep your emails brief and concise. We all, parents and teachers alike, have families and outside of school, our day to day lives continue.

Sunday’s gospel contains one of the famous ‘I am’ statements. Jesus proclaimed to his followers that “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be hungry; he who believes in me will never thirst.” (John 6:35) For thousands of years, bread has been a staple part of the human diet in many cultures. It is no accident that the image of Jesus as bread makes such a significant appearance in the gospel of John. For the Jews, like other Ancient Near Eastern cultures, bread was a vital mainstay of their diet. In the Bible, the word ‘bread’ often simply means all food – it was that important! For many, regular access to bread did equate to life. Bread also played a crucial role in religious practices, especially the Passover meal.
When we think about the Eucharist, Christ is present in many forms: in the people gathered; in the celebrating priest; in the Word proclaimed; and in the consecrated bread and wine – the Body and Blood of Christ. In relation to receiving Christ through the reception of communion, St Augustine wrote, ‘Be what you see, and receive what you are.’ We not only receive the Body of Christ through Eucharist, we are called to be the Body of Christ because of what we have received; and we receive the Body of Christ because we are already part of the Body of Christ.
St Michael’s Family Groups
The Passionist Family Group Movement has been a large part of the St Michael’s Parish for many years. You may ask “What are Family Groups?
Family Groups are a way to build a christian community through an extended family. A family for all who wish to belong - married, single, young, old or anywhere in between!
Traditionally each Family Group is made up of 5 - 10 family units and they gather once a month with a planned activity - a picnic, dinner, games night etc. A fabulous way to connect with others and have fun while building community.
On Sunday 18th August, the St Michael’s Family Groups will celebrate together with 9:30 am mass and morning tea in the hall. Together, with the J-Walkers, we shall celebrate the fabulous parish that we belong to. Everyone is welcome to join us for a great morning.

On Friday 26th July St Michael's was represented at the Traralgon District Basketball. We sent two teams to the event who were fortunate enough to be led by Matt Scholtes and Jess Murphy. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and fought right to the end in every game. The Girls team won 3 games and the boys won 2. We would like to thank Mrs Dortmans, Mr Scholtes and Jess Murphy who gave up their time to train and coach the team as well as Ben Murphy for his assistance scoring on the day.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at assembly on Friday.
In Week 4 the School Wide Expectation focus is Honesty:
I always tell the truth.
I am honest when reflecting on my personal performance.
I take responsibility for my actions.
