Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
I would like to announce that Mrs Sharon Scholtes has been appointed to the Deputy Principal position at St Michael’s. Sharon has been currently acting in this role, and has shown to be a fabulous leader for our school. Congratulations Sharon!
Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support
As a principal, I am sometimes asked how behaviour is supported at St Michael’s. As you are aware, the School Wide Expectations are taught and encouraged at all levels, with reinforcing positive behaviour being at the forefront of all that we do. Research suggests that focusing on positive behaviours has a better impact than drawing on negative behaviour displayed by students. You would be familiar with our School Wide Expectations of:
RESPECT LEARNING HONESTY SAFETY RESILIENCE
Naturally, there are times when we do have to address poor behaviour. The following rubric is used to help teachers determine the most appropriate action to take. This is always dependent first and foremost on the context of the situation and the child whom we are working with. As you know, each child needs to be considered individually and a “one size fits all” method does not work in schools.
This tool is being shared with you solely for the purposes of awareness raising within our school community. It is one of many ways in which our teachers try to build positive relationships with all students.

Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be given out at in the classrooms on Friday.
In Week 3 the School Wide Expectation focus is Learning:
I set high expectations of what I can achieve.
I work hard and always try my best.
I reflect on my own learning and how I can improve.
I can receive and act on feedback.

St Michael’s Netball Team Bound for State!
On Wednesday 30th July, the St Michael’s netball team travelled to Sale to compete in the Regional Competition – and what a day it was!
The competition was fierce, with every team bringing their best. In one nail-biting match against Lucknow, the girls managed to hold on and claim victory by just one point! Mrs Chapman was nearly on the floor with nerves, while Mrs Wisewould was willing the final buzzer to sound through sheer telepathy!
The girls continued to play with skill, heart and teamwork throughout the day, delivering a series of strong performances. Their grit and determination paid off, and they’ve now earned a spot in the State Finals!
We are so proud of their achievement and wish them all the very best as they take on the next challenge. Go St Michael’s!
This week’s gospel passage carries with it the expectation of the late 1st Century as the early Christians awaited the triumphant return of the Christ (sometimes called the Second Coming or the Parousia). This is a familiar theme through the gospels and, in fact, across the gospels we can see that the communities were beginning to face the realisation that the promised return was taking longer than they had expected.
An attitude of anticipation emerged … waiting for the Second Coming! Rather than waiting for the kingdom of God to be delivered, we must live our lives in such a way as to bring about the kingdom; to draw the kingdom into the present. Jesus often spoke of the kingdom as both near and not yet. If we all live the values of the kingdom, by our very actions we bring the kingdom into being. This gives an incredible significance to the way we choose to live our lives. If we ‘invest’ in the kingdom by living out the values of the kingdom and living in expectation of the Second Coming, then that ‘investment’ is its own reward.
We are about to begin our preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
