Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
We are very proud of our student leaders. They have shown their leadership in many ways over the past few weeks. They have been taking new families for Foundation 2022 for tours to showcase our school. At the Foundation Information Night last week, they took groups of parents around the school, introducing them to teachers and explaining how the school works. The parents were so impressed. The feedback I regularly get is that they speak so well and have such great knowledge of how the school runs.
Also, a very big thank you to our school captains who assisted in coordinating our Mum and Me - Stay at Home packs. It was lovely to receive some positive feedback about how families enjoyed completing activities in the packs. We have extended the drawing competition closing date until 9.00 am tomorrow morning. If you have an entry, please return it to Mrs Hanrahan in the art room.
Thank you to Candice and her mum for the following feedback and photos:
I would like to thank yourself and the student leaders for the lovely Mother’s Day Activity packs. Candice and I had lots of fun doing the crafts, pictures and games.
Slowly we are getting back to having ‘normal’ events at St Michael’s. Our Mother’s Day stall was a great success and we hope you enjoyed the gifts the children selected. Thank you to the helpers at our Mother’s Day stall. Our Parents and Friends group do a marvellous job at arranging events like this for our school.
Lunch orders will resume on Friday. Parent’s and friends still need more helpers to run this, an email has been sent out today with a link for helpers. If you can spare some time in the morning to help it would be greatly appreciated.
During Term 2 the Grade 1/2 classes are running a fundraising event, throughout the school, to raise money for the missions. One of the outcomes in Religious Education is that the children “know that God invites people to love and care for themselves, others and the world.” It is important for the children to recognise that others in our community need our help. As a level the 1/2 team have decided to support the Diabetes Foundation.
They will be running a ‘Mystery Jar Raffle.’ The children in 1/2 are being asked to bring a jar with something in it. The jar could be the original contents e.g. pasta sauce or it could be an empty jar that you have filled with something fun like hair ties, marshmallows, lollies, candles, balloons, stickers, pencils etc. The children will then sell raffle tickets each week at school for that week’s raffle, the raffle will be drawn at assembly in weeks 7, 8, and 9 and the winning people will choose a mystery jar from the shelf.
Whilst assemblies and year level liturgies are resuming, density restrictions limit the number of people, outside of staff and students, that can be in the Hall and Church. As such, we are unable to have parents attending these events at the moment. We appreciate your understanding.
Kind regards,
Jodie
from the Parents and Friends Association

This Gospel stresses that the most important thing that we do in following Jesus is to love God and to love one another. It is hard to love everyone, but we have a perfect example in Jesus. Jesus loved each one of us so much that he died on the cross so that we could share eternal life with him. Jesus asks us to be generous and to share this love with all of humankind. Speak with your children about the ways that we can love those around us and, particularly, who have hurt us. Encourage them to forgive the people who have acted in the wrong way and to show compassion to others. In this way we are following the example set out in the Gospel, following in the footsteps of Jesus.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and St. Michael’s Primary School is excited to be participating. A new application is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features including:
- access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- a modern user-friendly interface
- rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 17 September 2021.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
