Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
The staff at St Michael’s had a very productive day yesterday with Tracey Ezard via zoom exploring how we can further develop the collaborative culture at St Michael’s. Feedback has been a key improvement strategy at the school this year and Tracey helped us to work through ways as a staff for making this the most effective it can be. We know having a day so close to the flood event wasn’t ideal but Tracey had been booked since last year. As I shared with the School Advisory Committee at our recent meeting, last year we cancelled a couple of our closure days due to lockdowns and I am conscious that staff need time for professional development that is linked to our strategic plan.
School reports will be sent home this week as will the work the children have completed for their student - led conference. Your child's teacher will email you with some context and prompting questions to get the most of the experience. Unfortunately COVID restrictions have prevented these meetings occurring on site this year.
The Confirmation Masses last week went very well. We thank the Parish Sacrament team, our REL Sue Rickwood and the grade 5/6 teachers for their work behind the scenes to enable this to happen. Congratulations to all the students who received this sacrament.
We hope you all have a chance to spend time together as a family during the school holidays and look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 13th July.

Your orders will be ready for collection Wednesday 23rd June between 3:00 and 4:00pm from the school hall.
As we have no refrigeration storage space, please organise someone else to collect your order on the day if you are unable to do so yourself.
Thank you to our helpers for lunch order day, these days do not go ahead without community support, we appreciate each and every one of you. It has been fantastic to have more offers, and even some new faces, when we put the call out for helpers. An especially big thank you to Marie, Kylie, Karyn and the rest of the P&F team without whom these days simply wouldn’t be possible.
Just a friendly reminder: If you don’t receive an email receipt from CDFPay when you make your lunch order purchase, then the purchase hasn’t gone through. Please keep this in mind for future events.
It's great to see so many people engaging with the event reminders, information and photos on Facebook. If you haven't already followed our Facebook page, head on over to St Michael's Primary P&F Events Page! This is a great way to keep up to date with school events and information.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students on Friday at assembly.
In Week 9 the School Wide Expectation focus was Honesty:

Imagine the scene in this Gospel …… you are on a small fishing boat in the middle of a lake when a terrible storm whips up around you. How would you be feeling if you were on that boat? What would you do? Today you would have a life jacket to cling to if you should end up in the water, a radio to call for help, a beacon and maybe an inflatable boat. The disciples in this story had none of these things. In this frightening time they turned to Jesus for help. Jesus saw that they were frightened and commanded the sea to “be calm”. If we look beyond the miracle, we see that Jesus has divine authority over everything. In this Gospel we read of a high drama event, yet Jesus assures the disciples that they have no need to be afraid. In the same way we experience “storms” in our life, times that test our faith, it is in these times that Jesus is saying to us “be calm” and remember that He is in our lives. Think of a time when your faith has been tested and you have found strength in Jesus in the midst of the storm. Take the time to share this with your child, discuss how we all experience storms in our lives and that the seas will calm.
Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and St. Michael’s Primary School is excited to be participating. A new application is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features including:
- access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- a modern user-friendly interface
- rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 17 September 2021.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
