Education in Faith
All of the readings from Sunday, tell us that we are to listen to the prophet. In the gospel, through the authority of his teaching and expelling of demons, Jesus shows that he is the one to be listened to. Who are the voices of the prophet for us today? We probably all know people who we consider to be prophets. They believe strongly in God, and their lives testify to this. They are not just talk. How do these people affect us? Sometimes it may not be comfortable to be around these people: we may feel threatened just like the evil spirit spirit did around Jesus. Sometimes the prophet is inside us. We know what is God-centred behaviour and when something is wrong: do you listen to this voice inside you? For a child, you, the parent, are the most significant prophet. Do we speak with authority and conviction? Are our words consistent with the way we live our lives?
