Education in Faith
Mk 8: 27 - 35
This week we hear Jesus asking his followers a difficult question: “Who do you think I am?” People were very uncertain about who Jesus was. Some people confused him with John the Baptist; some thought he was a prophet; to others Jesus was simply the son of Mary and Joseph. Jesus appeared differently to different people. Simon Peter was the one who recognised Jesus for who he really was, and said, “You are Christ, the son of God.” The apostles had grown to know and love Jesus and had witnessed many miracles that could only be possible through the power of God. If Jesus asked us the same question today, how would you answer? We recognize that we are called to follow Jesus, the son of God but Jesus warns us that this will not be an easy road. Our focus is on a true expression of our faith in Jesus. Our faith is not something that is only displayed on Sunday, “the cross and service must go together.” Believers in Jesus put the gospel into their everyday life.
