Education in Faith
The message in this week’s gospel is quite clear: to listen to and respond to God’s word. In this gospel Jesus and his disciples are invited to have a meal at the house of sisters Mary and Martha. Martha busied herself preparing the meal and looking after the guests while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to what He had to say. Martha wasn’t very happy that she was doing all the work while her sister did nothing. When she questioned this, Jesus admonished Martha telling her not “to let these things upset you: they are not important. Mary has chosen to listen to me, and that is the most important of all.” I guess, most of us at some time fall into the trap of being so busy that we don’t make time for what is important. We all lead busy lives but it is important to take time to be with and listen to God as well as listening to our family, friends and those around us. Our relationships with God and with others are worth infinitely more than any amount of busy-ness in our lives.
