Dear Parents, Guardian and Carers,
We hope you all had a wonderful break and welcome you back to a jam packed Term 4. We start the term with 5/6 swimming, Year 3 Big Day Out, shortly followed by the Year 3/4 swimming program. There is something happening each week in Term 4, so the best way to keep up to date with what is happening at school is through this newsletter and our school app. We frequently update the school calendar so you can keep track of events, excursions, sporting activities and a whole lot more.
School Concert - Tuesday 19th November at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre.
Matinee performance - 1:30pm show (no ticket restrictions)
Night performance- 6:00pm show (ticket restrictions per family will apply)
The children will begin rehearsing their item for the school concert this week. Stomp Dance Co. will be at school over the next five weeks preparing the children for an amazing performance. I’d also like to thank Mrs Ashlea Vanyai for her time in preparing and working with the main characters of the show. As a local performer with lots of experience on the stage, Ashlea brings a wealth of knowledge and we are so lucky to have her mentoring and working with our cast. We are still finalising costs and as such have not released ticketing information as yet. These will come out in the next two weeks.
Open Classroom Afternoon - Thursday October 17th
At St Michael’s we have four days set aside in Term 4 whereby students will spend time in other classroom areas to help ease some of the concerns they may have about next year. In addition to this, some children have already begun the process of walking through classroom blocks, taking in similarities and differences and having the opportunity to ask questions about what next year might look like for them.
Another way in which we would like to support these transitions is to have an Open Classroom afternoon which will take place on Thursday 17th October from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. This is an opportunity for you as parents and carers to come along and check out their learning spaces for next year and ask any questions of teachers that you or your child may be thinking about 2025. There won’t be any set activities, but this is rather a casual time for you and your child to explore and view other classrooms areas; something that we know is particularly important for those heading into grade 1, grade 3 and grade 5 as these students are in completely different buildings.
Important dates:
- 10th October - Grade 6 class photo
- 14th to 17th October - Grade 5/6 Swimming program
- 15th October - Year 3 Big Day Out excursion
- Year 1/2 Scienceworks Excursion
- Year 3/4 Swimming Program
- 19th November - School Concert 1:30pm and 6pm
Kind regards,
Lia Dicorleto - Acting Principal
In this week's gospel we read about Jesus welcoming children and praising their attitude as the way to the kingdom of God. Children of the time of Jesus had no status and were regarded as literally the property of their father. When Jesus laid his hands on the children and gave them his blessing, this was the action of a father ‘claiming’ the child as their own.
Jesus is enjoying the presence of the children, He makes it clear that we must imitate children and become like them in order to enter the Reign of God. Obviously Jesus is calling us to not be childish but to be childlike. How do you see the difference between being childish and being childlike? What exactly are we being called to?
Most of us at some time or another have been told to ‘grow up’; ‘stop acting like a child’; or to ‘act your age’. It implies that, as we grow older, we have to behave in a more ‘responsible’ or ‘mature’ way than when we were children. Jesus turns this on its head and tells us that unless we ‘welcome the kingdom like a little child’ we will never enter it. The gospels are full of stories about people who call on God’s mercy because they recognise that without God they are nothing. When they subsequently receive God’s mercy or healing they welcome it all the more – like a little child.
Each week students from each class are awarded Student of the Week certificates. These children are nominated for the example they have been within the school based on the School Wide Expectation focus for that week. The weekly focus will be from Wednesday until Tuesday the following week. Awards will be presented to students at assembly on Friday.
In Week 1 the School Wide Expectation focus is Safety:
I have the right to feel safe in our school environment.

We are putting a call out for odd socks!
These socks can have holes in them or just simply missing a partner. Please send these to school in the next 3 weeks.
In the 3/4 AB students have been following in the footsteps of Jesus by brainstorming ways they can show human dignity to people in our school community.
They have been working very hard in term 3 to put together different ways they can do this. The children have provided more information on each of their projects below and there will be posters around the school.
Any help and support would be greatly appreciated.
A group of students from 3/4AB are making a Kindness Letter Box. We have been learning about Human Dignity and ways that we can show it. It will be in the quiet area and there will also be one in Micks Kitchen for the children and adults that go there. It will start in Week 1 Term 4. If you're feeling down we have kindness quotes and letters in a box that you will be able to take. Please inform your children about this and we will be speaking in Assembly about it as well. “Kindness in any way can really make someone's day’’. Thanks, Rose, Grace and Tayla on behalf of the Kindness Letter Group! 3/4AB |
Hi parents, A small group of 3/4 A and B students are making sock balls to raise money for Cambodia. If you could please bring in any old socks to 3/4 AB to help contribute to our sock ball making collection that would be awesome thank you. The sock balls made will be sold for 50 cents at break 1 and 2 in the school's quiet area for those who want to help raise money for a good cause! Thank you for your kind donations. We hope to help as many people as we can. -Blake M, Noah M, Nixon, Zach and Ollie S. |
We are learning about human dignity in classes 3/4AB and we decided to make a knitting and crochet club to share the love for people who may need something. We would appreciate wool/ yarn donations. Knitting needles and crochet hooks will help us a lot. Once we have made the items we will have a stall out the front of St Michaels hall Traralgon and inside St Vincent De Paul Society Traralgon, so you can come and get something that would be useful for you or your family. You can only get 1 item per week. We are giving away Beanies, Scarves, Blankets, Bracelets and animals. You are welcome to come by and get something. We are open Monday to Friday 8:30 am till 3:20pm. Yours Sincerely The Knitting and Crochet Club BE HAPPY, BE WARM, BE KIND |
Hi Parents, 3/4 AB are trying to show human dignity around our school. We are starting a Book Swap where you can bring in a preloved book that you no longer use anymore and swap it for another book. You must bring a book to be able to take a book. The Book shelf will be located outside 3/4 AB’s classroom. We can't wait to see people using it! |
